New York City is home to a lot of celebrities, from those who were born here to the ones who moved here because of the effortlessness of blending with New Yorkers, regardless of your celebrity status. Maybe it’s the stereotype that celebrities love to live in NYC because New Yorkers don’t care who is sharing a subway ride with them as long as they get to work on time. Some of New York City’s famous residents act just like the rest of us on subways, in grocery shops, and even while picking up after their dog on the streets. Here is a list of celebrities you probably didn’t know were from NYC.

1. Cynthia Nixon

Do you remember the beautiful red-head from Sex and the City? Well, Cynthia Nixon is the Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress best known for her role as Miranda Hobbes on the popular TV and movie series Sex and the City. She is actually from New York City and still lives here!

2. Anne Hathaway

Les Misérables and the Devil Wears Prada actress Anne Hathaway was born in Brooklyn. When in New York City, she tends to stay in both Manhattan and Brooklyn, although she prefers neighborhoods like Dumbo where she recently owned an apartment.

3. Anderson Cooper

The CNN anchor and son of New York legend Gloria Vanderbilt, Anderson Cooper, was born in New York City. He presently lives in the West Village where you may run into him while he hose down the front of his firehouse home.

4. Mariah Carey

As a product of Long Island, this multi-platinum winning artist still calls Manhattan home. Mariah Carey has previously shown off her swanky New York City duplex located in Tribeca on MTV cribs, leaving us all wanting to get invited there for a dinner with the diva.
