July 4th, America’s Independence Day, has passed. Now it’s time to get excited for July 14th! The date doesn’t ring a bell? Bastille Day! This is a French National holiday, dating all the way back to 1789 with the storming of the Bastille. This was the day the French were finally released from an economic and political crisis, marked as the symbol of the French Revolution, and an important holiday worth celebrating liberty, equality, and fraternity ever since. This patriotic pride goes a long way on Bastille Day, especially here in New York City. The week leading up to July 14th is full of events to celebrate the French culture. This year, Bastille day will occur on Sunday, July 15, 2018, hosted by the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), creating New York’s biggest & liveliest French street fête from 12:00PM to 5:00PM on East 60th Street, from Fifth Avenue to Lexington Avenue, NYC. You will not fall shy of French cuisine, musique, dance, and attractions for the whole family at this three-block fête populaire. There are also many other places throughout the city to celebrate. Check out what is going on during these two weeks of French Celebrations.
