This summer from July 29th to August 25th, the annual Harlem Week Festival will take place in New York City. This festival began as Harlem Day in 1974, but due to popular demand, the celebration extended its stay. This summer marks the 44th annual celebration that you do not want to miss. Harlem Week offers over 100 events showcasing the community’s unique flavor, promoting Harlem’s rich African, African-American, Caribbean, Hispanic and European history, culture, arts, religion, entertainment and sports. Harlem Week features both outdoor and indoor music concerts, The Upper Manhattan Auto Show, Film festivals, Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run & Health Walk, Sporting events, Adult and children’s fashion shows, Youth programs and activities, Career fairs, HBCU Fair & Expositions, and much more. A Great Day In Harlem | Sunday, July 29th
U.S. Grant National Memorial Park – W. 122nd Street and Riverside Drive
This day-long event is jam-packed with fashion shows, concerts, saluting Gospel, dance, theater, latin, rhythm & blues, jazz, arts & crafts, food from around the world, vendors, exhibitions, corporate exhibits, career recruitment and more. Don’t miss the Artz, Rootz & Rhythm International Cultural Showcase, taking place from 1:00PM-3:00PM for live entertainment by local, regional, and international dance companies and cultural organizations. Then later, from 3:00PM-4:30PM, the entertainment continues with the International Gospel Showcase, where local, national and international Gospel Choirs and performers take the stage. Summer in the City | Saturday, August 18th
12:00 PM – 5:00 PM On 135th St.
Today is filled with swimming, parades, dancing, fashion shows, concerts. vendors, and films. Take your children to the NYC Children’s Festival from 12:00PM-5:00PM at Howard Bennett Playground, 135th St., where there will be a parade, exhibits, games, arts and crafts, live music, dance, free health testing and sports clinics. From 12:00PM to 3:00Pm, participate in the giant outdoor dance party, “Dancing in the Streets” on 136th Street and St. Nicholas Ave. Stage. Later on between 4:00PM-6:00PM at the same location, check out top headlining artists at the “Uptown Saturday Concert.” Finish the night with the Imagenation Outdoor Film Festival on the Great Lawn of St. Nicholas Park.
Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run & Health Walk | Saturday, August 25
Event Registration: 6:00AM | Run & Walk Start: 8:30AM | Community Celebration: 12:00PM
Location: 135th Street & St. Nicholas Avenue
Harlem Week concludes with a 5K run and walk through the historic Harlem, working to bring together the communities throughout New York. There is a community celebration post-run and walk, including family-oriented performances produced in conjunction with the hip hop hall of fame & museum.
